Romans 10:1-4
What is written? (ESV)
Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
What does it say?
Brethren, it's my heartfelt desire and prayer that they [Hebrews/Israelites] might be saved. I know firsthand that they have a zeal for God, but it's not according to knowledge. Rather, they are ignorant of the righteousness of God and seek to establish their own instead of submitting to God's - which is Christ, the end of the law for the righteousness to all that have faith.
What is its immediate context?
Paul’s letter to Gentiles primarily, argues for their equal inclusion/access to God. However, he also speaks to his kinsmen (Jews) stating his desire for them to be saved as well – clarifying through chapter 9 that it’s “not the children of the flesh that are Children of God, but the children of the promise” (9:8).
