Exodus 4:15-16
What is written? (ESV)
You shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth, and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you both what to do. He shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, and you shall be as God to him.
What does it say?
God will give Aaron to Moses in order to “be his mouth.” Moses is to give Aaron the words; God will be with both of them and instruct them. Aaron will speak for Moses, who will be as God to Aaron.
What is its immediate context?
God gives Moses his mission to advocate to Pharaoh on behalf of the people. One of Moses’ objections is that he is not a good speaker. God addresses the objection and provides Aaron who is apparently can “speak well” (vs 14).
How Exodus 4:15-16 is applied across Bible answers
What distinguishes a prophet of God?
Effectively, God is giving Aaron to Moses to be his prophet. To speak for him. From Pharaoh's perspective, Moses is God (the authority), and Aaron is his prophet (the spokesman).
