Acts 2:6-8
What is written? (ESV)
And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?
What does it say?
And at this sound (mighty wind vs 2) the crowd came together and were confused since they each heard them speaking (the apostles) in their own language. In amazement, they were acknowledging that they were Galileans, yet each person could hear them speak in his/her native tongue.
What is its immediate context?
It is the day of Pentecost and Jews have made the pilgrimage to Jerusalem from all different nations (vs 5). The apostles have what appear to be “tongues as of fire” (vs 3) resting on each one of them to the amazement of the crowd and Peter begins to preach to them of Jesus.
How Acts 2:6-8 is applied across Bible answers
