What is written? (ESV)

This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.

What does it say?

This charge [of preaching God’s word] I [Paul] am entrusting to you, Timothy. According to what was prophesied about you, that by them you will continue to fight the righteous battle and hold firm to your faith and good conscience. Rejecting these has shipwrecked the faith of others, including Hymenaeus and Alexander, who I turned over to Satan in the hopes they will learn and turn from their error.

What is its immediate context?

Paul’s instructions to the young preacher Timothy, ending chapter 1 with two named individuals who were engaged in false teaching and as a result made a “shipwreck of their faith” and have been “handed over to Satan to learn…”.
